The Pavement Research Institute brings together researchers with a wide range of expertise in pavement engineering, including pavement construction, geomechanics, laboratory and non-destructive testing, and computational modeling. In addition, the PRI's position within the University of Minnesota, and its close relationship with Mn/DOT, facilitates collaboration with researchers in a diverse set of transportation-related disciplines, including economic analysis and materials engineering.

PRI Director: Michael Darter, Ph.D., P.E.

Michael I. Darter, Ph.D., P.E., is Emeritus Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Illinois and principal engineer with Applied Research Associates (ARA), Inc. Darter has been involved in pavement engineering throughout his entire 40-year career and is an internationally recognized authority in highway and airport infrastructure.
